Car Light Bulbs

Car light bulbs are one of those things you don’t pay much attention too until you need to replace them. And many people will often continue to drive once a bulb has expired which can be dangerous in several ways and can get you in trouble with the law especially if they are headlights.

Thinking about car light bulbs means thinking laterally because there are several areas in your vehicle that utlize lighting. Taking your car in for a regular service is one way to make sure they are in good working order but what happens when an interior light goes out for example and you’re not sure how to replace it.

Changing A Car Light Bulb

Changing out car light bulbs is not difficult at all and here is a crash course in what you need to do:

- Safety is an important issue and you need to cut the power to your light bulb source. This should be within your manual but there is usually a swithch which will terminate the power source.

- The light bulb will usually be protected by a cover of sorts usually dome shaped and some simply detach with a slight turn while others are screwed in. Once you remove this cover then take out the old bulb.

- Be a tad careful removing the bulb and once out, just make sure there is no dust or dirt inside the socket. Use a torch to look at this and don’t go poking your fingers in there. A cloth such as an emery cloth will do the job of cleaning it.

- Then simply screw the new bulb in place, place the cover back on and check to see whether your new light is working.

Before you decide to change the light bulb to your car it will pay to visit a local auto parts store and make sure you get the right globe. There are literally hundreds and hundreds of different globes for different makes of cars and they come in all shapes and sizes. Make sure you choose the correct one.

Many auto parts stores may include replacing the bulb as part of their service of for a small fee. This is usually so if it’s just a simple replacement job. Make sure you ask and if they can do it for you then this will save you any frustration especially if you’re worried about making any mistakes.

LED Light Bulbs

LED car light bulbs are a great alternative to the standard globes. One of the big advantages they have is their ability to improve light output. Seriously, some of the lighting output you get in cars today is questionable. LED is cleaner, clearer and tougher and can save you money in the long run.

AN LED light bulb will last a lot longer than a standard globe and in fact, once you put one in, it may be that it will outlast the length of time you hang on to the car. They can be expected to last between 40-50 hours and are available for several areas of the car including overhead courtesy light, map light and door lights.
